One of the most scenic drives in Northumberland takes you from Hexham and up into the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty towards Allendale. After a slow climb uphill over many miles, you can turn towards Whitfield and Alston and follow the road through dense woodland and alpine hairpin bends downhill towards Staward Gorge and the River Allen. Whit was captured on the Cupola Bridge on a wonderfully scrappy day, with spells of bright sunshine, rolling dark clouds, and the odd flurry of snow.
