For a short spell, alongside my film and photography work, I used to dabble in higher education and spent some time as a Senior Lecturer at Teesside University on their Performance degree. This personal project was a result of my time there. As part of my research whilst working at the University, I became very interested in how ‘non-performance’, when set against emotive elements such as shot composition and music, can create meaning, or an opportunity for meaning, for an audience member and/or for a performer. I worked on this music video for the brilliant Southampton based band Gideon’s Demise in an attempt to create as blank a canvas as possible, for both the people featured in the video, and those who would later watch it, to see what stories and emotional connections they would create for themselves.
